Kyabram Community and Learning Centre will, for a second year, be the host of the forum, which will take place on Tuesday, August 26.
The forum will bring the community together to address the needs of people living with dementia and explore ways to create a more inclusive and accessible environment for them.
Attendees will gain valuable insights from a diverse panel of experts, including representatives from Dementia Australia, Services Australia, the Aged Care Commission, Carers Victoria and Elders Rights Advocacy, as well as respected medical professionals.
Local dementia champion Mick Simpson said the event aimed to provide information to those in need, while also creating a supportive community for individuals facing challenges related to dementia.
“My message has always been we need to stop being individuals and start working as a team … there are all these pockets (of people) not far away from here that can’t get local support,” Mr Simpson said.
“That’s what it’s all about, just to let people know they’re not on their own.”
KCLC has long been at the forefront of dementia advocacy, establishing the Dementia Voices Alliance to spearhead initiatives that enhance the quality of life for both individuals living with dementia and their carers.
Mr Simpson said Kyabram’s position as a leading location for dementia awareness in regional Victoria was thanks to the likes of Claire Perrella and Jen Savage from KCLC along with Jessie Wells, who has stepped up recently.
“It’s hard work, what they’ve done,” he said.
“Behind the scenes, it is a lot of organising and solving problems and doing the hard yards — and I can’t thank them enough.”
The event will run from 9.30am to 3.30pm at KCLC at 21-25 Lake Rd, Kyabram.
