The Federal Government contributed $30 million towards design and the start of construction for the cancer centre, but the Victorian Government has so far failed to provide funding to complete this vital project.
A further $90 million is needed.
This week in parliament, state Member for Northern Victoria Wendy Lovell called on the health minister to commit to funding the integrated cancer centre at Goulburn Valley Health.
“Labor betrayed Shepparton when the health minister reneged on stage two of the GV Health redevelopment,” Ms Lovell said.
“But I never gave up fighting for the integrated cancer centre to bring all oncology services under one roof at the hospital.”
GV Health is the only major regional health service in Victoria that doesn’t have an integrated cancer centre.
The centre would bring all oncology services under one roof at the Shepparton hospital.
Liberal candidate for Northern Victoria Steve Brooks supported Ms Lovell’s call for action.
“The Federal Government has invested in an integrated cancer centre at Goulburn Valley Health, and now the Victorian Government must do its part and provide the necessary funding to complete the cancer centre.”
Goulburn Valley Health Foundation this year launched its own $5 million fundraising appeal to contribute towards stage two of the integrated cancer centre, to demonstrate how passionate the Greater Shepparton community is about getting the vital service.
