Benalla CFA members Nick Panuccio, Kallan Horton and Riley Mayes will be climbing 28 floors while carrying 25kg of kit on September 6, raising vital funds for cancer and mental health charities.
Back in June, the Ensign reported on three local CFA volunteers preparing to take part in the annual firefighter stair climb.

On September 6, they are on their way to Melbourne to climb 28 floors of the Crown Metropol, in full CFA uniform, carrying 25kg of kit.
And there’s still time to donate.
Nick Panuccio, one of the trio, said all funds would go to Lifeline, the Peter MacCallum Cancer Foundation and the 000 Foundation.
“This will be my fourth year doing the stair climb,” he said.
“Previously I’ve done it with Forest Fire Management, where I work in Benalla. And this will be my first year doing it with CFA.
“For Kal (Horton) and Riley (Mayes), this will be their first time.”
Mr Panuccio said he loved taking part in this event as it raised funds for such a good cause.
“All the money goes to mental health and cancer charities,” he said.
“We all know someone whose been affected by those, which is why I’ve stepped up to do it again.”
Mr Panuccio said entrants had to be pretty fit to take part in the challenge.
“With my work you’ve got to be fit anyway, but I still do some training,” he said.
“This year I’ve been a little slack, but I’ll normally wear a weighted vest and go for a walk around the lake, or up and down the grandstands.”
