Photographer Robert Balfour isn’t 100 per cent sure, but that’s just the way the apple crumbled before digital photo metadata cemented that information in image files and saved our memories from betraying us on those finer details.
So, now, he’s ap-peal-ing to the Goulburn Valley public to get to the core of the picture’s facts on behalf of the Mooroopna Historical Society.
While local personality Graeme ‘Peewee’ Young, pictured to the left of them in this photo, officiated the wedding ceremony of Percy Pear and Priscilla Peach, it is not known who wore the salad of fruit costumes, including the apple, nor who acted as their bridesmaid, pictured to the right of them.
What Mr Balfour does know is that the couple, who he believes might have gone on to get married in real life without their suits of fruit, were from Shepparton.
This matrimony of Shepparton’s finest produce took place at The Fruit Connection on the Peter Ross-Edwards Causeway between Shepparton and Mooroopna, before the KidsTown playground was built around it, at an event promoting Ardmona Fruits.
Anyone who can help the Mooroopna Historical Society identify who is in this photo is asked to contact Mr Balfour on 0427 863 041 or to email editor@sheppnews.com.au
