The Gippsland-based Absolute Angus stud has expanded into the Echuca region with the multi-million dollar purchase of a Bamawm dairy farm.

The 180ha former dairy farm made an impact on Absolute Angus stud principal Anthony Pisa.
“It was only the third farm I’d looked at in northern Victoria and I was immediately impressed,” Mr Pisa said.
He had been expecting “drought-ravaged, flat country” but said he instead found green pastures, quality shedding, existing irrigation infrastructure and three separate water supplies.
With a soil type ideal for grazing, as well as hay or lucerne production, the purchase became a no-brainer for the expanding Victorian Angus stud.
“Buying this property wasn’t about me, it was about my cattle and what it is they need; this property ticked all the boxes,” Mr Pisa said.
The Bamawm property will play a key part in the stud’s expansion, with Mr Pisa keen to extend his business reach across the Murray River and into the NSW Riverina.
“Breeders across this region and further north understand how critical good genetics are when producing top of the range Angus, so this is where we need to be,” he said.
Absolute Angus officially moved onto the Bamawm property in June and is already running 500 head of breeding cattle.
The farm will also prepare bulls for the Absolute Angus Spring Sale in October, which will be held at the Trafalgar South selling centre.
“Trafalgar South/Thorpdale is still the most beautiful place in the world, but I’m looking forward to the opportunity to explore Echuca and the region,” Mr Pisa said.
Absolute Angus has been focusing on Angus bull genetics since 2008 and running on-farm sales since 2019.
Before going into commercial Angus and seedstock, the Pisas were potato and dairy farmers.
