Alison Koopman, 49, faced the Shepparton Magistrates' Court yesterday after pleading guilty to the shop lifting.
Police prosecutor Caitlin McLeod told the court that on a day in December 2017 Koopman, who was living in Cobram at the time, attended Bunnings in Shepparton.
The court heard while Koopman was in the store she put a total of 23 items in her trolley and left without making any attempt to pay for them.
Ms McLeod said CCTV footage was later used to trace Koopman's steps throughout the store, where it was identified that the total value of the items was $2097.
The court heard Koopman was arrested and interviewed at the Cobram Police Station.
Koopman's lawyer Megan McKenna told the court that during the time of the offending she was using methamphetamine on a heavy basis.
Ms McKenna said Koopman had since relocated to Stratford where she was engaged with Primary Care Connect and a counsellor.
“She knows if she is having trouble or attempts to do something she shouldn’t do, she knows (her counsellor) is only a phone call away,” she said.
Magistrate John Murphy referred to the offending as shop lifting on a big scale.
Mr Murphy ordered Koopman to attend the Bairnsdale Community Corrections Service over three months to perform 50 hours of unpaid community work.
Koopman was also ordered to pay compensation of $1002.
