Veteran independent MP Bob Katter has apologised for an incident involving a security attendant at Parliament House.

At the end of question time in the lower house on Wednesday, Speaker Milton Dick invited Mr Katter to make a statement.

"I must apologise to the house for my actions yesterday in attempting to enter the chamber after the order of the doors to be locked," Mr Katter told parliament.

"I also apologise to the security attendant who was closing the doors and I acknowledge he was doing his job as directed by the Speaker."

One MP was overheard saying after that statement: "What was that about?"

Further details of the incident are being sought.
