According to research conducted by the Australian Bureau of Statistics, approximately one in five Australians aged between 16 and 85 will experience a mental health-related illness.
The Personnel Group chief executive Tracey Fraser said the events aim to increase awareness about what support is available for local employers.
“Mental health issues can affect a person on many different levels, and as employers it is important to understand and explore the right supports within the workplace,” she said.
Those in attendance were greeted by Dale Skinner from the Black Dog Institute, who shared his personal experience with mental illness.
Ms Fraser said mental health was nearly on a par with physical disability.
“On a daily basis, the team at The Personnel Group support people with a mental health condition and witness how their illness impacts on their life and ability to work,” she said.
The Personnel Group will host these events across Victoria and NSW throughout October for Mental Health Month.
