Family fun day celebrates First People's Assembly

People of all ages came together at Victoria Park Lake in Shepparton on Saturday to celebrate the First People's Assembly.

The free community event was at the lake and gave locals the chance to come together to vote and celebrate an important step on the journey towards Treaty.

Community members enjoyed a performance by Hip Hop artist Meriki Hood, a barbecue hosted by the Dragon Boat Club, a jumping castle, face painting, live music and traditional indigenous games.

The day was organised to celebrate the First People's Assembly, a group which will act as the voice of indigenous people across Victoria for the next step of the treaty process.

The First People's Assembly will be made up of Traditional Owners elected by indigenous Victorian's and Victorian Traditional Owners living outside the state.

Community members were able to cast their votes on Saturday, with polling booths open now until Sunday, October 20.
