The schools 5 foundation classes had the opportunity to dress up as their favourite fairy tale character after spending weeks of listening and learning about fairy tales.
Foundation section leader and teacher Amy McCurdy said the day was a nice way to finish off a unit of work and a away to reward the children for all their hard work.
“Fairytales have been a really good way to spark the children’s imagination and teach them about the good and bad characters about also about settings of books,” Miss McCurdy said.
The young children rotated to the other foundation classes to listen to teachers read other fairy tales and take part in arts and craft activities.
Teachers also got into the spirit of the day and dressed up as character from the book they were reading to the students.
“The children love sitting and listening to stories and after reading they love to role play the book back out,” Miss McCurdy said.
Pirates, princesses, fairies, billy goats, trolls, witches and wolves were a few of the many characters the children dressed as on the day.
Miss McCurdy said it was special to see the children go to so much effort with their costumes.
“It was good to see that it’s just not all the beautiful and friendly characters, but kids have also looked at the other bad and wicked roles too,” she said.
