Echuca boy devastated after beloved bike stolen

A YOUNG Echuca boy is questioning why someone would steal his beloved bike from his home last week.

Ruben's parents Natelie and Richard de Jager moved to town from South Africa about two years ago for a better life.

“His Dad surprised him with the bike about three months ago and he absolutely loved it,” Natelie said.

“It means so much to him as this was his first big bike here in Australia.”

The red and black Giant bike was stolen from the family's Victoria Place about 11pm on Wednesday, July 1.

Ruben, 7, said he felt very sad someone took his bike.

“That's why we moved from South Africa - to get away from thieves,” he said.

“My Dad surprised me with the bike and now it's gone. Why do you get mean people in the world?”

The family has reported the theft to police who are investigating.

They are appealing to anyone who saw anything suspicious that night or has seen the bike to contact Echuca police on 5483 1500 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
