Proteas spinner discovers fate over bowling action

Prenelan Subrayen is free to continue his international cricket career after the South African spinner was found to have a legal action.

Subrayen had been reported for a suspected illegal bowling action during his ODI debut against Australia in Cairns on August 19, when he claimed the key scalp of Travis Head on the way to figures of 1-46 off 10 overs.

The 31-year-old was allowed to continue to bowl until the tests of his bowling action were conducted, but South Africa decided to withdraw him from the rest of that ODI series to protect him from the public eye.

Subrayen underwent an independent bowling assessment at the National Cricket Centre in Brisbane on August 26.

The ICC released a statement on Sunday revealing the test results.

It showed the amount of elbow extension for all of Subrayen's deliveries was within the 15-degree level of tolerance permitted under the ICC Illegal Bowling Regulations.

Subrayen has endured scrutiny over his bowling action throughout his career - even as far back as 2012 when he was a teenager.

The right-arm off-spinner played his sole Test against Zimbabwe in July this year, and can now resume his international career.
