Cobram doctor Cristina Dumitrescu, who has led the changes, believes the extended hours will lead to better health outcomes within the community by improving access. She was delighted to have three medical practices working together, which showed the clinics were working in the best interest of the community.
‘‘There is a real need in the community for after hours appointments,’’ Dr Dumitrescu said.
‘‘Longer opening hours will allow us to support people who are not able to get away from work or school for appointment.
‘‘It will allow us to relieve some of the pressure on the urgent care clinic.
‘‘It is really great to have everyone working together, they are a good bunch of people who really see the value in this.’’
The after-hours service is a 12-month pilot project with the hope it will be extended, depending on demand.
The extended hours will be shared between the three practices:
Tuesday — Cobram Medical, 2 Charles St. Phone 5871 0800.
Wednesday — Alpha Medical Centre, 30 William St. Phone 5871 2366.
Thursday — Mivo Park Medical Clinic, 18 Hay Ave. Phone 5872 2166.
The clinics will continue to run the usual weekend and public holiday clinic at Cobram District Health from 9 am to 1 pm.
The urgent care centre will continue to be available 24 hours a day, seven days a week for urgent treatment. After-hours clinics start from Tuesday, September 3. To make a booking phone the relevant medical clinic directly.
