The breakfast also serves an important purpose as a fundraiser, with all proceeds supporting the Anzac Appeal, which assists local veterans and their families in times of need.
Annabel Thomas of the Shepparton RSL Sub-Branch highlighted the event’s growing significance.
“Thousands of people attend the dawn service each year, and it continues to grow in popularity,” she said. “The great thing about the Gunfire Breakfast is that people can come together afterwards at the club, enjoy a freshly cooked egg and bacon roll, and contribute to the Anzac Appeal.”
She added that the event helps strengthen community connection.
“In the past, we’ve seen people go their separate ways after the service. This is a great way for our local community to stay together and support the club on such an important day.”
Mrs Thomas also emphasised the importance of engaging younger generations.
“It warms my heart to see families bring their children along. There isn’t always a strong focus on Australian war history in schools, so this is a meaningful way for children to learn about and appreciate the significance of ANZAC Day.”
With support from local service groups—including the Shepparton South Rotary Club, Kiwanis Club of Shepparton, Lions Club of Shepparton, and Kiwanis Club of Shepparton Sunrisers—the Gunfire Breakfast will begin straight after the dawn service on April 25 at the Shepparton RSL.
Attendees can enjoy $2 egg and bacon rolls, along with complimentary tea, coffee, and juice. EFTPOS will be available, though cash is preferred.
PLEASE NOTE THAT THE DAWN SERVICE WILL COMMENCE AT 5.45am.
