In 2004 he introduced the first ever ear sensors for cows. Built on years of university research and on-farm trials, it’s been continuously upgraded ever since.
Today, for the dairy farmers in more than 40 countries that use CowManager, it’s about more than data. It’s a smarter way of farming.
Full control
CowManager ear sensors give farmers insights, early alerts and real herd advantage.
It tracks ear temperature alongside rumination, eating, activity, inactivity and high-active behaviour.
The system shows each cow’s ear temperature compared to the herd average so you can spot those that stray well outside the norm.
South-west Victorian dairy farmer Lachlan Fry says: “It’s been so beneficial to be able to pick up on non-cycling cows, cystic cows, overnight heats and general health issues before we do. CowManager picks them all up.”
Ahead of the herd
Receiving those early alerts means better-timed action.
That can mean fewer days of illness, improved fertility numbers, fewer surprises around calving, more productive cows, an increased milk yield and a smoother transition period.
“It’s an easier way of doing things and it allows us to pay more attention to the care of individual cows,” dairy farmer Trevor Shanahan says.
“We have better control with CowManager. We can keep an eye on them, and nothing slips through the cracks.”
The system is also a time-saver.
Victorian dairy farmer Brett Membrey says: “We were spending six to seven hours a day heat detecting, instead of 10 minutes a day with CowManager. And now we’re getting it right.”
