After leading 20th Century Fox's X-Men franchise for nearly two decades, the Australian actor appeared in 2024's Deadpool and Wolverine. While he has not confirmed whether he will return, Jackman has hinted his time wielding the claws could continue.
"Maybe ... I am never saying 'never' again," he said when asked about the character during an appearance on The Graham Norton Show.
The Song Sung Blue star added he had initially planned to retire Wolverine for good following 2017's Logan, but he eventually "changed his mind" and agreed to star opposite Ryan Reynolds as mouthy mercenary Deadpool.
"I did mean it when I said 'never', until the day when I changed my mind. But I really did for quite a few years, I meant it," Jackman said.
"I have done 10 films now, so I think they have enough for an AI version of me!"
While Jackman's Marvel future is uncertain, several of his X-Men co-stars are returning for Avengers: Doomsday.
The 2026 blockbuster will star Sir Patrick Stewart as Professor X, Sir Ian McKellen as Magneto, Kelsey Grammer as Beast and Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler. Channing Tatum returns as Gambit, along with James Marsden as Cyclops and Rebecca Romijn as Mystique.
Meanwhile, Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Paul Rudd (Ant-Man), Anthony Mackie (Captain America), Florence Pugh (Yelena Belova), Sebastian Stan (James 'Bucky' Barnes), Wyatt Russell (US Agent) and Lewis Pullman (Sentry) are also confirmed to appear in the film.
Finally, the Fantastic Four - as portrayed by Pedro Pascal (Mr. Fantastic), Vanessa Kirby (Invisible Woman), Joseph Quinn (The Human Torch) and Ebon Moss-Bachrach (The Thing) - round out the cast.
Avengers: Doomsday - which is being helmed by Avengers: Endgame directors Joe and Anthony Russo - will likely follow the Avengers, the New Avengers, the X-Men and the Fantastic Four as they desperately try to stop Doctor Doom, played by Robert Downey Jr, from unleashing his devastating plans across the multiverse.
