The Picola and District Football League’s final round of the regular season will get under way on Saturday afternoon and the race for the top four remains in the balance.
Strathmerton, Katamatite, Katandra and Katunga are all in with a shot of the double chance come finals and each side will be hungry for a win.
In what could be the game of the round, Strathmerton will host Katandra.
With the Bulldogs currently in third place on 44 points and the Kats in fifth on 40, the game is a must-win for both clubs.
Last week Katandra lost to Tungamah but coach Trent Herbert said the side had taken positives from the defeat.
“We’re shaping up pretty good,” Herbert said.
“We had a good night on the track on Tuesday night and the boys were disappointed with their performance against Tungamah last week.”
The Kats will be without Herbert on the field on Saturday, with the club’s mentor picking up a season-ending ACL injury against Picola United.
“Apart from that we’re looking pretty good,” he said.
“They’ve (Strathmerton) got a few players we’ve got to try and nullify.
“Our first goal of the year was to make finals and we’re excited to see where we can take it.”
Katandra’s clash with Strathmerton will begin at 2:05pm.
In the other top-four decider on Saturday, Katamatite will face off with Jerilderie at home.
Fresh from a week off and currently sitting in fourth on 44 points, a loss could see the Tigers drop out of the top four.
Katamatite coach Jedd Wright said it was shaping up to be a huge contest.
"We’ve been talking about it for a couple of weeks now,“ Wright said.
“We had good numbers on the track and are looking forward to playing one of the form teams of the competition.
“We’re expecting them (Jerilderie) to be quick, they have a couple of good inside midfielders and dangerous forwards. We’ll look to play our game and win the contested footy.”
In other round 18 matches Berrigan will aim to finish the season strong at home to Tocumwal, while Waaia will face an away trip to Mathoura.
Katunga will be hoping it can sneak into the top four when it plays Blighty in Blighty and the Deni Rovers will welcome Picola United to Memorial Park.
Tungamah and Rennie have a week off.
