Uplifting verandahs in Sanger Street

Eyes looked skywards by pedestrians in Sanger Street Corowa last week with scaffolding erected for verandah makeovers on Corowa Hotel and Hotondo Homes.

Managements of both premises said they took the opportunity to have the work undertaken with the absence or slowing down of business with the COVID-19 restrictions.

“It was an opportunity to get the verandah back off the curve,” Hotondo business owner Frank Miccio told The Free Press.

“We’re using some good timber posts. These bridge beams are from an old bridge and provided by Focus Engineering. We’re trying to replicate the verandah – to keep it as authentic as possible.”

Frank, who is approaching a decade in the premises, said the building used to be a billiards hall and the sign reflecting that was handed to the historical society last Friday.

“It used to also house a panel-beating shop,” he said.

Co-owners of highly rated Corowa Hotel Di Collins and Natalie Coall were looking forward to seeing the brightened up verandah. Colours of both verandah premises are so similar if not identical to previous colours.
