More than 300 people turned out for the gathering at Shepparton’s Victory Park. The family friendly event had young and old joining in a range of activities and getting a taste of the festive food specially provided by a number of groups.
Speaking on behalf of the group, member Talia Humphrey said the group was pleased with the success of the second major event.
‘‘The night was even more successful than we had imagined,’’ she said.
‘‘There was such an atmosphere of fun and a real sense of belonging.’’
Ms Humphrey said despite being impacted by the tragic terrorist act that occurred in New Zealand, she was reminded of the power of unity and gathering together with others.
‘‘While we were deeply saddened by the horrific news coming from New Zealand earlier that day, we were incredibly touched that our local community could come together and show not only how possible it is, but how strengthening it is for humans to come together in this way,’’ she said.
She said the group looked forward to having more family friendly events that would celebrate the diversity and strength of the community.
