Eel grass harvesting under way at Victoria Park Lake

Although the lake will be closed to all public use during this period, the surrounding spaces and playground will remain open.

Eel grass harvesting occurs biannually, usually in March, and again in September or October.

A special aquatic harvester boat is used to cut the eel grass below the surface.

The council said eel grass was maintained because it naturally improves water, stabilises the lake bed and helps protect the overall health of the lake ecosystem.
