The Rochester midfielder’s memorable Top End football season ended with the Nightcliff best-and-fairest, an equal-third finish in the Nichols Medal, and both hands around the Northern Territory Football League premiership cup after the Tigers doled out a grand final drubbing of St Mary’s.
Trewhella strode out on to a choppy TIO Stadium surface for his second grand final in six months, but this time he walked out a winner as a hungrier Nightcliff secured a barnstorming 72-point win.
While Trewhella has been a powerhouse in the Tigers engine room, Seymour’s Jack Peris was equally influential off the wing for the yellow and black in the 13.14 (92) to 2.8 (20) triumph, providing plenty of dash to nab the club’s first flag in five years.

The Tigers booted two goals and held St Mary’s to three behinds in the opening stanza as both teams attempted to navigate the soggy conditions, and it was apparent which was successful in that area in the second quarter.
A six-goal to two term saw Nightcliff open a 39-point buffer at half-time and they never looked back.
While Trewhella and Peris celebrated, however, another Goulburn Valley League star would rue a missed chance for more silverware.
Shepparton Swans turned Lancaster recruit Luke Davies could not add another Saints premiership to his collection after helping the proud Top End club to the league’s top prize in 2024, but will go down as one of St Mary’s only two goalscorers for the match.
