On the morning of Monday, February 23, the school held a liturgy in appreciation of the school’s founders and the generations that have contributed to the St Mary’s community.
The students split into their house groups for the day to participate in activities that built their house spirit and deepened their understanding of the school’s history.
“It was wonderful to see the kids learning about the history of the school,” principal Elaine Vertriest said.
She said the students enjoyed the opportunity to spend time with kids in other year groups and “it was just brilliant seeing the smiles on the kids’ faces”.
Morning tea was served alongside cakes decorated in the house colours.
Many alumni and former community members attended, including Sheila Griffin, who taught at St Mary’s for 50 years and has a wing of the school named after her.
For lunch, the school held a barbecue with the assistance of community members.
The milestone celebration came together thanks to the dedication of staff, who ensured the day was meaningful and enjoyable for all.
Students enjoyed activities such as a tug of war.
