“It takes us away from home, but more important, it finds homes for us everywhere.”
An upcoming book fair at Wilmot Rd Community Hub will reach for a double-edged reward, when it offers life enrichment to both supporters and beneficiaries.
Shoppers will have a sea of books to wade through and purchase for a fraction of their original cover price, while proceeds from all sales will be used to purchase much-needed goods for Caroline Chisholm Society’s GV Pregnancy and Family Support Service.
“I wanted to donate to a smaller organisation in Shepparton and help highlight the great work they do down there,” hub leader Sarah Pearson said.
“I got the idea late last year when the school (Wilmot Rd Primary School) was going through their books and I had extra books for the hub’s community library.”
Ms Pearson said the format would be similar to the hub’s annual free clothes event, except that the books would come at a small cost to raise some funds.
For $1, shoppers will be able to choose three novels or five picture books.
And if they’re feeling a little generous, there will also be a donation tin at the fair to chuck a little extra in for those who want to.
“All money raised will be used to buy nappies, wipes, hygiene products, and socks and underwear for children,” Ms Pearson said.
Whether you want to read or you are in need, this fair will provide a share.
The hub is now taking donations of good quality children’s books, novels and recipe books, with no tears to pages or drawings inside.
They can be dropped off at the hub between 9am and 3pm, Tuesday to Friday, until March 20.
The fair will take place on one day only, Wednesday, April 1, from 9am to 3pm at the school hall.
Shoppers are asked to bring their own bags, baskets or boxes to carry their books home.
