In the Craig Shield, a pair of Karramomus young guns have produced strong seasons at their respective premier clubs, with Callum Thornton (Caulfield) and Jackson Crouch (Kew) both experiencing time at the upper echelon of the sport.
Crouch’s time with Kew featured six games and yielded four wickets as Kew finished third at season’s end, while Thornton led Caulfield’s champion points tally, following a 16-wicket tally (seventh in the league), including a 6-14 display against Moorabbin.
Nagambie’s Flynn Bush was unsurprisingly a driving force in Brunswick’s premiership winning season, scoring 299 runs and taking 10 catches across the competition, ranking the Laker 10th in the champion points leaderboard.
Bush’s premier cricket summer included a knock of 85 in the semi-finals to see Brunswick through to the decider.
Additionally, Kyabram Fire Brigade cricketer Jonty Sefton played alongside Bush for Brunswick.
Zac Gale from Old Students Cricket Club also featured in the under-15 shield and was arguably the league’s top wicketkeeper, taking 11 catches (equal-second) and had a game where he claimed three behind the stumps on top of three assisted run outs.
Heading up an age group to the WJ Dowling Shield, a pair of Notre Dame Central Park-St Brendan’s boys produced solid seasons at under-16 premier cricket level.
Nate Yze plied his trade at Greenvale, scoring 79 runs across his stints in the competition, while Gus Byrne pulled on the keeping gloves and took 11 catches and made two stumpings with some sharp work behind the stumps.
Karramomus keeper Toby Keady also featured in the league, playing for Northcote.
Amongst four catches and a stumping, Keady also recorded a top score of 34 against eventual grand finalists Melbourne Cricket Club.
