The centre, at 6 Evergreen Way in Shepparton’s north, will offer free, specialised support for new parents and carers of children from birth up to four years old.
Nurses, midwives, play therapists, practitioners and allied health professionals will help families with sleep and settling, feeding, care and specialised support for behavioural and development issues.
“Early parenting centres provide expert guidance and support to children and families when they need it — this new centre in Shepparton will make a massive difference for local families,” Victorian Minister for Children Lizzie Blandthorn said.
Designed to feel like a home away from home, the centre will feature 10 overnight family units, four day-stay places, shared kitchen and dining areas, a multi-purpose room, a playroom, various outdoor spaces and onsite parking.
State Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes said the centre was “a major win for local mums and dads, ensuring every child has the best possible start in life”.
The Evergreen Way site, off Parkside Dve, was chosen for its easy access by car and public transport, and its proximity to shops and other services.
The project is part of the Victorian Government’s expansion of the Early Parenting Centre network to deliver new and upgraded centres across the state
New centres have been built in Wyndham, Whittlesea, Ballarat, Bendigo, Casey and Geelong, while existing centres at Noble Park and Footscray have been upgraded.
AW Nicholson Construction is building the Shepparton centre, which is expected to be complete next year.
