Each year bowlers get together and raise money for a local charity.
This year there were 26 teams consisting of 104 bowlers descend upon the wonderful facilities of Tatura Bowls Club to raise money for GV Hospice.
It turned out to be a successful day, raising the most money since the inception of this great initiative.
These kind of days don’t just happen without the support of a great number of people.
Thanks go to Tatura Bowls Club which allowed the use of its facilities at no cost.
In particular thank you to Jason who prepared two immaculate greens and also helped run the bar and raffle as well as organising morning tea to be available.
A great effort.
Also, thanks to all the bowlers who attended.
Particular thanks to RSL which is a small group of bowlers, but they stepped up when an extra team was needed.
A truly great effort.
Also, at the last minute one of the teams had to withdraw, so four individual bowlers from different clubs joined the ranks to form a composite team.
This was a great effort from Alan, Mike, Bruce and Bill.
Your assistance was widely noted and greatly appreciated.
As for the day, apart from raising a record amount of money for GV Hospice there were also some great bowls played.
Four teams managed three wins.
Two of these were from Lifestyle Village, which entered four teams.
Given that they don’t have a presence in our regular weekly competition this was a marvellous effort from them.
Thanks to Norm for organising that.
However, the runner-up was the last-minute Composite Team which was a pleasing result.
Congratulations to Bruce Smith from Murchison, Alan Beck from Mooroopna Golf, Mike Guiliani from Shepparton Golf and Bill Milner from Tatura.
A super effort not just to form a team at late notice, but also to bowl as well as they did.
The winners on the day was Murchison, represented by Col Johnson, Tony Martin, Wayne Brown and Geoff Higgins.
Well done to them and, in fact, the 104 bowlers present.
It was truly a great day.
Next week the competition returns to its regular program with a split round hosted by Colbinabbin and Dookie.
Hopefully the weather will continue to be kind, as the tail end of the season approaches.
