The Goulburn Valley Playing Area’s midweek pennant first division finals race is heading into the last round of the home-and-away season with a pair of Tuesday’s results setting up a blockbuster finale.
Needing a win to keep its finals hopes alive heading into the 14th and final round, defending champions Tallygaroopna, currently fifth, closed the gap on fourth-placed Euroa with a clinical showing against East Shepparton.
The Redlegs collected a resounding 35-shot triumph on the back of resounding performances from skips David Daws (34-14) and Mark Ryan (30-15), while Carla Miles tied Euroa’s Kevin Cox 21 shots apiece.
The convincing 15-85 to 1-50 win has drawn Tally to within two points of Euroa, which dropped its clash against Shepparton Park 0-55 to 16-68.
The Parkers, gunning for the coveted double chance, belied the close nature of the shots tally by getting all rinks up, securing maximum points via Noel Halden (27-22), Kate Bush (21-19) and Ross Higgins’ four (20-14) in a tight encounter at Shepparton Park.
The loss means Euroa must now battle to secure their finals berth.
In a perfect finale, it will be sudden-death when Tallygaroopna visits Euroa in the final round to determine who progresses to the post-season.
Elsewhere, Shepparton Golf placed one hand on the minor premiership with a 15-shot win over Seymour VRI, Golf skip Garry Russell’s 27-18 triumph against Joseph Purcell breaking the deadlock.
Meanwhile, Seymour’s dream of a top two finish isn’t out of the question after a 30-shot win over Tatura Hill Top.
They’ll be made to earn it, however, with a final-round match-up against Shepparton Golf on the Golfers’ home green booked for next week.
