Time-based school zones operate on weekdays during Victorian school terms, from 8am to 9.30am and from 2.30pm to 4pm.
Reduced speed limits are designed to keep children safe when they are travelling to and from school, getting on and off buses and using school crossings.
Reduced speed limits also protect school crossing supervisors.
Moira Shire Council CEO Matthew Morgan said this was an important message, particularly after the longer holiday break over summer.
“The safety of our school children is a top priority,” Mr Morgan said.
“School crossings are also a workplace for our school crossing supervisors.
“I urge all drivers to slow down and take extra care around schools as the new school year gets underway.”
Across Moira Shire there are 11 school crossings, supervised by 20 Moira Shire staff.
Mr Morgan said the school crossing supervisors were trained to support children’s safety and do an outstanding job.
“Please respect our school crossing supervisors,” he said.
