The Golfers have announced a new head coach and it’s a player who requires no introduction in the realm of GV bowls, with a homecoming on the cards for the league powerhouse.
The Golfers have reappointed Brad Orr as their leading man for the 2026-27 campaign, who returns to the club after competing for Essendon in Melbourne’s Premier pennant competition for the past two seasons.
The Victorian representative and Golf premiership player will succeed Kris Ferguson in the role, with the incumbent coach leading a successful stint that delivered premierships in weekend and midweek divisions.
Orr has still been aligned with Shepparton Golf during his time at Essendon, appearing several times on the region’s greens.
Unsurprisingly, the announcement of the highly-rated skip’s return on a more full-time basis has been well-received.
“The club’s board of directors is thrilled to announce the appointment of Brad Orr as our new head coach for the 2026-2027 season,” Shepparton Golf said in a statement.
“Brad returns after spending two seasons with Essendon Bowls Club in the Melbourne Premier League, bringing a wealth of experience having previously led Shepparton Golf to many finals over the past 10 years.
“We acknowledge Kris Ferguson for his coaching and leadership over the past two seasons, and (we are) excited as he leads the club toward finals in both midweek and weekend pennant competitions in the coming weeks.”
The Golfers are firmly entrenched in second place on the Allan Matheson Shield ladder with two games to play and they’ll get an early taste of finals with a shootout scheduled in round 13 against Euroa.
Meanwhile, Tallygaroopna is the team to beat, three games clear atop the standings, and will be hoping to add an 11th win for the season against Mooroopna at Redlegs HQ this weekend.
Seymour VRI hosts East Shepparton, while Tatura-Hill Top and Shepparton Park round out the Matheson Shield action.
