Longest-serving Shepparton Foodshare board member and former chair Jeremy Rensford, who will remain on the board, handed the reins to Cheryl Hammer, who has been on the board for 10 years.
“I’m honoured to now take on the role of chair of our newly elected skills-based board for 2025-26,” Ms Hammer said.
“I will waste no time in rolling up my sleeves ... to make sure we can continue to deliver dignified access to the food our community needs to live well and thrive.
“Together, we will steer the strategic direction and uphold strong governance to secure the future of our critical organisation.
“It is a privilege to lead alongside such a talented board of directors, experienced staff and an extraordinary group of volunteers whose commitment and tireless efforts ensure we deliver on our purpose.”
The Shepparton Foodshare board undertakes a skills audit annually and appoints members to ensure strong governance, leadership and expertise required to deliver its food-relief service.
Other re-elected members include Jan Phillips, Russell Smith, Peter Thompson, Damien Willoughby, Carolynne Frost, Seema Abdullah, Lyndon Galea and Lauren Donnellan.
“The Shepparton Foodshare board continues to work hard to improve the organisation every year,” Mr Rensford said.
“We’ve made the decision to appoint Cheryl Hammer as our new chairperson. I congratulate Cheryl on this appointment and look forward to continuing to work with her and our skills-based board in the future.”
Shepparton Foodshare executive officer Dee Healey thanked Mr Rensford for “his leadership, dedication and strong advocacy as chair”, and acknowledged his contribution as the board’s longest serving member.
“It's been an honour to chair this great organisation for the last five years,” Mr Rensford said.
“My journey began by taking the minutes for the establishment committee in 2011, and then culminated in my appointment as a founding board member in 2012.
“I look forward to staying on as board director for another productive and impactful year for our community.”
