Formerly known as The Bridge Youth Service, the extension does not so much describe a change in what the service provides, rather it reflects more accurately what it has always delivered.
“Our new name acknowledges what has long been true — that while our focus is and always will be on young people, we also work closely with their families, parents and carers,” chief executive Melinda Lawley said.
“We support young mums, we walk alongside parents, and we know that families play a vital role in the wellbeing of young people.”
The organisation will move into a new facility in Shepparton’s St George’s Rd later this month that has has been customised for its service delivery, ensuring greater accessibility and purpose-built spaces for its antenatal, young parents’, school and family groups and programs.
The organisation has been supporting families from the Goulburn Valley and beyond with housing, mental health, education and programs for young people, parents and families since 1995.
The Bridge Youth + Family Services also has offices in Wallan and Seymour to service the Mitchell and Murrindindi shires.
