The Northern Territory Football League Premier Division season commenced at the weekend and a swathe of local products, making the annual Top End pilgrimage to keep kicking the Sherrin, are pulling on the boots.
Morrison Medal runner-up Mitch Trewhella was one of the Goulburn Valley League’s dominant midfield presences in 2025, and NTFL power Nightcliff is set to benefit from his services.
The Rochester star hit the ground running with a goal in his Top End debut, helping Nightcliff open its season in style with an 11.11 (77) to 8.16 (64) win over Tiwi at TIO Stadium.
Seymour’s Jack Peris joined Trewhella in the winners’ circle as the Tigers fended off an inaccurate Bombers to kick off the season with the four points.
Mitch Trewhella will be a handful for opposition midfields as he competes for Nightcliff.

However, they’re not the only Goulburn Valley products in the mix.
Tatura’s Curtis Ryan is teaming up with brother and former Bulldog Brad at Pint Football Club, which enjoyed a 35-point win over Waratah in round one.
Congupna’s Jimmy Boyer joined the Ryan’s in his Greenants debut, making an immediate impression for his new NTFL club.
The Murray Football League gun was named in his side’s best, roving a sharp chance on goal in the opening stages of the second quarter as Pint streaked away with the game.
The 18-round NTFL season continues into February, with reigning premiers Southern Districts the team to beat in the premier grade competition.
