Well, the GV Chinese Association has set up an event that will let the community do just that — and so much more.
The Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as the Moon Festival, is one of the most cherished traditions in Chinese culture.
It symbolises reunion, gratitude and joy under the full moon, with families sharing mooncakes, lanterns and music.
This year’s Shepparton celebration, marking a revival of Chinese community events after COVID, is expected to welcome between 100 and 150 people of all ages.
The event is free to attend, supported by the Greater Shepparton City Council, the Ethnic Council of Shepparton and District, and local businesses.
Event organiser Kimberley Chu said they wanted people of all backgrounds to come together, taste something new and experience the spirit of reunion and joy that the festival represented.
“For the Chinese community, this festival is also about re-boosting our presence after COVID and honouring those who carried GVCA before us,” she said.
Organiser Jimmy added that the festival was not just a cultural celebration, but also a statement of community pride and inclusiveness.
“For me, it’s about building bridges between generations and between communities,” he said.
Activities include mooncake tasting, a DIY lantern-making workshop, karaoke and music, a trivia quiz, a photo booth with traditional Chinese costumes, and games and fun for the whole family.
The Mid-Autumn Festival celebration will be held on Saturday, October 11, from 1.30pm to 4pm at the South Shepparton Community Centre.
