While it might not be one person reaching this milestone, Dookie Primary School turning 150 years old is just as special.
And of course, no birthday would be complete without cake.
On Saturday, October 11, Dookie Primary School will open its doors to past and present students, staff and the wider community to celebrate 150 years of education, memories and milestones.
However, to mark the occasion too, The News has teamed up with the school to produce a special commemorative magazine.
This 12-page lift-out, publishing inside The News on Tuesday, October 7, is filled with stories, photographs and reflections that capture the heart of Dookie Primary — from its earliest days right through to the present.
Inside, you’ll find profiles of current staff and students, memories from past pupils and teachers, and stories that showcase what makes this school so unique.
And at Dookie Primary, community spirit has always been the key — when people lend a helping hand, big things are achieved, and you can hear from those who today help keep the school thriving.
The 150-year celebrations themselves are set to impress.
The day will offer a blend of nostalgia and fun for all ages, with a historical walk tracing 15 decades of the school’s journey, engaging activities for families and a delicious range of options from food and coffee trucks.
So, do yourself a favour — grab your copy of From little things big things grow, free inside The News on Tuesday, and then head out on Saturday for a day of fun, memories and celebration between 10am and 4pm.
Both the commemorative magazine and the school event are set to showcase the magical and rich history of this community treasure.
