Only four rounds remain in the AFLW’s home and away campaign, and a couple of Goulburn Valley products are putting their best case forward for finals.
Euroa’s Georgia Gall is comfortably perched in second with Melbourne, kicking a goal and recording nine disposals in the Demons’ 13.15 (93) to 0.6 (6) thumping of Gold Coast on Friday.
Ex-Shepparton United forward Keeley Skepper is also well poised in fifth with Carlton, notching eight touches in the Blues’ nine-point victory over Fremantle.
Outside the eight, Benalla’s Rebecca Webster chalked up 18 possessions for Geelong in Thursday’s narrow loss to Hawthorn.
Fellow Cat, Kyabram’s Julia Crockett-Grills, did not feature due to a hamstring injury with her return date currently unknown.
“Julia Crockett-Grills came from the ground in the fourth quarter against Port Adelaide with a hamstring concern,” Geelong’s head of AFLW Dominique Condo said.
“Julia is currently undergoing further assessment, and we will have a better idea of her return to play timelines later in the week.”
Meanwhile, Shepparton’s Grace Egan has produced her best performance of the season.
The hard-running inside midfielder tallied a stellar 24 disposals, 13 contested possessions, eight tackles and four clearances for an embattled Richmond side during its 34-point defeat to Brisbane on Sunday.
The Tigers are yet to win a game in 2025, but Egan remained optimistic in a post-game interview with Richmond Media.
“It was pretty heated out there today,” she said.
“Brisbane’s a great team to play against; we always know it’s going to be a tough match and I feel that we came out firing and we showed it to them for the first half but just couldn’t hold it.
“We’re getting better and the more consistent we are and the more we hold it, we play our way.
“And we see it; the first half today, we held it to them and we were able to have a level game but we just lapse in moments and you can see it out on the field where they come and they overrun us.”
Egan has only featured four times for Richmond this season, and her efforts on Sunday were comfortably the best for the year, landing her player of the match honours for the Tigers.
“I’m building; I feel like I’ve had a bit of time off in the start of the season ... (I) didn’t have the start I wanted,” she said.
“So to be able to come out here today and have that, I just wanted to have more pressure and get around the ball.
“(Eight) tackles for me, I don’t think I’ve ever got that. That’s the best stat you can get, so I’m pretty happy with that.”
