The state body for the ball and racquet sport is hitting the road to offer upskilling opportunities for regional communities, with a focus on increased accessibility for participation and volunteer work in tennis.
The roadshow initiative will offer a Hot Shots Volunteer Delivered program, aiming to build upon the Community Play program that encouraged participation in tennis, as well as Cardio Volunteer Delivered, a fresh addition giving community volunteers flexibility to deliver cardio sessions.
The Sustainable Regional Tennis project has already proven impactful with regional club coaches increasing by 10 per cent in 12 months, while opening coaching and playing pathways for developing young athletes.
The roadshow program aims to further increase these figures, with new Victorian sign-ups to have their fees covered in their first year of registration with Tennis Victoria, promoting accessibility for all who wish to play the sport.
Tennis Victoria chief executive officer Kim Kachel said the roadshow will provide supportive avenues for participation.
"This roadshow is about creating supported pathways for people to get involved in tennis whether as a coach, club volunteer, or community champion,“ Kachel said.
“By covering program fees, offering training, and backing volunteers every step of the way, we’re making sure regional tennis has the people and programs it needs to thrive."
The travelling program will make its way through other regional towns such as Ararat, Horsham and Bendigo, but is scheduled to hit the courts in Shepparton on Saturday, October 18.
