A dozen Euroa locals braved icy waters on Thursday, August 21, plunging into the Euroa Arboretum dam as part of the nationwide Daffodil Day appeal.

Dressed in yellow tutus and swim caps, the group faced the 3°C water head-on.
The event was about more than a cold-water challenge.
For organisers, it was an opportunity to highlight the struggles of farmers through drought, while also raising vital funds for cancer research.
Almost one in two Australians will be diagnosed with cancer by the age of 85, making the cause close to many hearts.
“The cold water was just exhilarating,” co-organiser Jenny Houghton said.
“I swam today for all those people around me affected by cancer — I will definitely be participating again next year.”
The squeals and laughter of participants echoed across the dam, as onlookers cheered from the bank.
Jake, a six-year-old retired racing greyhound, took the first plunge — though just for a drink.
Soggy swimmers warmed up by a roaring fire pit and tucked into a well-earned sausage in bread.
For Brendan Allen, the dunk was deeply personal.
“A very good friend of mine passed away earlier this year, in his 30s, which was tragic. I wanted to honour him today and raise awareness and funds,” Brendan said.
So far, the event has raised more than $2500, with donations continuing to flow.
The group’s motto captured the spirit of the day: for all that cancer takes, give hope this Daffodil Day.
