The whirlwind week-long event showcases the best racers in the country, who will more than figuratively put the pedal to the metal at Shepparton BMX Track.
It is the second time in four years Shepparton will hold the event after hosting in 2023, although the latest edition is set to be an upgrade following developments to Shepparton’s BMX Track and Cycling Precinct from funding issued by the Victorian Government’s Regional Sports Infrastructure Program.
Recent construction added a multi-use event pavilion with elevated track views to provide a greater viewing experience for spectators.
City of Greater Shepparton Mayor Shane Sali said visitors and the local community would reap the rewards of the BMX track upgrade project.
“Hosting top sporting events such as the 2026 GWM BMX Racing National Championships is a wonderful opportunity to showcase the region,” he said.
“We’re excited to welcome competitors, support crew, families and visitors for the week-long event and spotlight our world-class BMX track.”
The 2026 event takes place in April, with 1400 riders from across the country to wheel their way into the Goulburn Valley for the races.
Greater Shepparton City Council expects more than 4000 visitors during the week, with the boosted local economy an added bonus to the showcase.
Shepparton has become an established BMX and cycling destination, with its regular willingness to host some of the top events in the country marking the region as a hotspot.
Earlier this year, Shepparton hosted the 2025 AusCycling BMX Racing National Series.
“Shepparton has an established reputation for being a great cycling destination,” AusCycling chief executive Marne Fechner said.
“The Shepparton BMX Track is among Australia’s best and the club and local community do a fantastic job in making everyone feel welcome.”
