The male motorcyclist, aged in his 40s, was travelling east in an 80km zone on Old Dookie Rd, Grahamvale, at about 8.50pm on Saturday, August 16, when he slowed to turn left into Cuthbert Crt.
Shepparton police said a silver Holden utility travelling behind collided with the rear of the motorcycle, ejecting the rider from it, before the driver lost control and the utility slid off the side of the road into a channel.
The driver fled the scene on foot.
The motorcyclist sustained upper body injuries and was taken via ambulance to Goulburn Valley Health in a stable condition.
Police said the utility did not have registration plates on it.
