Jason Archer, who first joined G-MW as an undergraduate in 2013, has returned to monitor water quality and blue-green algae levels while working with catchment partners to reduce environmental impacts.
“Getting that experience and working with the water quality team really sparked my interest in biological science, particularly water quality and blue-green algae research,” Mr Archer said.
After completing his science degree and masters at the University of Melbourne, Mr Archer pursued a PhD in New Zealand, specialising in infectious disease modelling within ecosystems.
He completed his doctorate in 2024 before returning to G-MW.
A Goulburn Valley local who attended Tatura Primary School and McGuire College in Shepparton, Mr Archer’s role involves data analysis, report writing, field work and laboratory tasks.
Outside of work, Mr Archer has proved to be a quiz show whiz — he has won prizes on both The Chase and Hard Quiz, and though he considers himself retired from game shows, he remains a fan of challenging programs such as The 1% Club.
G-MW talent acquisition partner Hannah Riddell is encouraging university students to apply for the organisation’s Undergraduate Placement Program.
“Students can add practical experience to their resumes, which can help them later down the track,” she said.
The program runs from November to February, offering placements across various departments including Legal, Business and Finance, and Engineering.
