David Collier came into The News in June to record a podcast about his off-the-beaten-track trip to the crossroads of Central and South-East Asia: Afghanistan.

We tried to keep our conversation podcast-length, aka short-ish, but our ‘brief’ chat clocked up almost 50 minutes.
Still, on reflection, David says he’d only just touched on what the month-long experience involved in the foreign and challenging land he travelled.
So, if a picture tells a thousand words, we’ll let this selection from his time abroad tell you several thousand.
From Islamabad to Peshawar, Kabul to Kandahar and everywhere in between, David engaged with the locals, indulged in the traditional foods and learned about laws and customs, and the shocking women’s rights, or rather lack thereof.
He shopped for antiques and artefacts, sat with members of the Taliban and visited history-rich holy sites.
If you’d like to learn more about Afghanistan and its people from David’s point of view, take a listen to the podcast here, or head to David’s dedicated Facebook page that details his trip and the discussion since he got home in May: The Afghanistan Journals - David Collier.
