KDL locks in finals venues as business end approaches

The Kyabram District League finals are less than two weeks away and venues for the elimination finals right through to the big dance have been announced.

The first elimination finals kick off the do-or-die contests, which will be held on Saturday, August 23 at Rushworth Recreation Reserve, with the second elimination finals to be held the following day, Sunday, August 24, at Merrigum Recreation Reserve.

Longwood and Stanhope will host the semi-finals in week two on Saturday, August 30 and Sunday, August 31, respectively, while Shepparton East will host the preliminary finals at Central Park Recreation Reserve on Saturday, September 6.

Four grades of football and seven grades of netball will then vie for premiership glory at Mooroopna Recreation Reserve, with grand final day slated for Saturday, September 13.

Building on the success of the 2024 finals which had record attendances, league president Peter Cordy spruiked a new addition for grand final day this year, which he hopes will help exceed the lofty heaights of last season.

“After a record-breaking finals series in 2024, we have been working on making this year’s finals even bigger and better,” Cordy said.

“This year, as part of our grand final celebrations, we will be holding an exclusive grand final sportsman’s lunch, which will feature special guest and former AFL great Anthony Stevens.”

The grand final lunch offers guests the opportunity to hear from Anthony Stevens while enjoying a roast lunch and afternoon tea, as well as gate entry.

Guests will have exclusive access to the balcony where they can watch the football grand finals, including the seniors match, with early bird tickets currently available at $110 a person.

“We’re pleased to have a guest speaker of Anthony Stevens’ calibre to launch our inaugural sportsman’s luncheon,” Cordy said.
