A car was destroyed after it was set alight outside a central Shepparton home on Saturday, August 2.
Police said an unknown person or people had gotten into the red Mitsubishi Outlander while it was parked on Fryers St, between Skene and North Sts, at about 11.10pm.
They stole Stihl power tools from inside the vehicle, police said.
Police believe they then used two jerry cans of petrol they found in the Outlander to douse the vehicle before setting it on fire.
Fire Rescue Victoria firefighters were alerted to the fire at 11.26pm after several 000 calls.
They arrived on scene within four minutes to find the vehicle fully ablaze.
Wearing breathing apparatus, FRV crews worked to extinguish the flames, with the incident deemed under control soon after at 11.34pm.
The fire has been deemed suspicious by police.
Anyone with CCTV footage or who witnessed the fire or the lead-up to it, is urged to contact First Constable Thomas Christie at Shepparton Crime Investigation Unit on 5820 5777.
