The white Holden Commodore had been travelling in convoy with a ute that crashed into a light pole on the Goulburn Valley Hwy near Riverside Plaza in Kialla about 11.15pm on Thursday, July 3.
The three teenage occupants were all taken to Melbourne hospitals with serious injuries.
Police said both vehicles were earlier allegedly travelling at up to 200km/h in Wyndham St near the skate park.
An article that went online on the Shepparton News website on Wednesday, July 9, that called for information about a Holden Commodore and its occupants, received a huge response.
Police say this man was a passenger in the Holden Commodore.
Eastern Region Division 3 divisional commander Superintendent Brett Kahan said on Thursday that police had already seen information “flooding in” after the call-out.
He urged anyone else who may have information or dash-cam footage to contact police.
Supt Kahan said it was believed the vehicles had been driving erratically in Shepparton for about half-an-hour before the crash.
“People might have inadvertently caught the vehicles on dash-cam (earlier),” he said.
“We need to know who these people are.”
While police know there is at least a driver and one passenger in the car, Supt Kahan said it was possible there were other passengers.
Supt Kahan said the two vehicles were travelling at “frightening speeds” through the central business district.
He said the crash scene was one of the more graphic scenes police had been to.
“When there’s an accident like that, it’s like a mini explosion,” he said.
“It’s a sheer fluke that they’re alive.
“An accident like that is usually a fatality.
“We don’t often see speeds in excess of 200km/h in any town.”
Supt Kahan said the “best-case scenario” was if the drivers and passengers in the Holden Commodore handed themselves in to police.
Anyone with information or dash-cam footage of either vehicle or their occupants in Shepparton before the crash should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or crimestoppersvic.com.au
