Thales Australia upgrades

Thales Australia is undergoing several upgrades over the next two years including the installation of a Commonwealth Government-approved solar farm.

Thales management has advised nearby residents of possible impacts on the community, including noise, dust, and increased truck and other traffic movements.

“Noisy activities such as use of heavy construction machinery will be conducted during normal working hours to minimise noise impacts on the community,” general manager Matt Jarrad said.

“Dust generation will be suppressed and truck movements limited to normal working hours.”

Trading as Australian Munitions, Thales employs about 400 people involved in the manufacture of propellants and explosives primarily for the Australian Defence Force.

Ventia has signed the contract with the Department of Defence to design, deliver, commission, operate and maintain a 4-megawatt PV solar array.

The Solar Farm will be designed and built over an 18-month period.

Ventia then will operate and maintain the site for an initial period of 24 months.

The Mulwala Solar Farm will provide an additional energy source to Defence, as well as helping them meet their commitments to net zero.
