Davis has been named a Team Vic official as a sports trainer for the under-15s girls’ football side, which will compete in the School Sport Australia Championships in Moreton Bay, Queensland, next month.
“I’m pretty excited,” said Davis, for whom the role is a personal first.
“It’s an awesome opportunity for the students that get to go up, but also going up as a volunteer, it’s a great opportunity for professional development.
“Also, it’s a chance just to see some awesome sport.”
Five days a week, Davis is a biology teacher at Cobram Secondary College, and a trainer with the Barooga Football Netball Club’s youth girls’ team.
She blitzed through an application process, similar to that of a job and starting last December, and received her trainer’s uniform on Tuesday, June 17.
“I think most sports trainers aren’t teachers. So I think, being a school sports competition, having the teacher behind me gave me an awesome advantage,” Davis said.
The under-15s girls’ football side consists of 25 girls, four emergency players, and a coach, assistant coach and team manager drawn from schools across the state.
Davis is one of three Cobram locals who will be at this year’s championships.
Cobram FNC products Eamon Hyde and Alec Corso have been named to represent Victoria in the under-15 and under-12 boys’ football sides, respectively.
