Flood study update shared

This includes consultant Hydrology and Risk Consulting Services, along with Project Control Group members Goulburn-Murray Water and the North Central Catchment Management Authority.

The accurate mapping will allow for the calibration of the study’s hydraulic model to be finalised.

These maps show the extent and approximate depths of the 2011 and 2022 flood events.

Following the completion of the hydraulic model, ‘design’ flood events will also be modelled.

These will map flooding behaviour for various ‘design’ flood events, ranging from a 20 per cent to less than 0.1 per cent chance of occurrence in any given year.

Council is seeking feedback on the mapping, with an online form for submissions open until Friday, May 30.

They have stressed the importance of accurate hydraulic modelling, particularly to support potential mitigation and warning systems down the line.

Mitigation investigation is set to begin around August 2025, parallel to the flood event modelling. Ideas around mitigation are welcome anytime.
