This parish map of Kialla features the early landowners from 1872.
The township of Kialla West was gazetted in 1892.
Included with the map are two advertisements: In 1872, the first Kialla land lots were put up for sale at one pound per acre.
In 1887, James McLellan, a wealthy landowner, put one of his farms up for sale.
The photos feature the Field family of Kialla West at their ‘Oakrise’ farm, circa 1884.
The marriage of Miss Annie Field and Harry Kirk was featured in the newspaper Table Talk, Melbourne, on October 18, 1889.
KIRK—FIELD. The marriage of Miss Annie Field, daughter of Mr J. R. A. Field, ‘Oakrise’, Kialla West, to Mr Harry Kirk, son of the late Mr John Kirk of Kialla West, took place on Thursday, October 10, at the residence of the bride’s parents.
The ceremony was performed by the Rev Mr Finlay in the presence of a large company of guests.
The bride was given away by her father and attended by two of her sisters and two of the bridegroom’s sisters as bridesmaids.
The bridal gown was composed of cream cashmere and moiré, with a small coronet of orange blossoms and a plain tulle veil.
The elder Misses Field and Kirk wore pretty white muslin gowns, and the little girls wore blue embroidered frocks; all wore the bridegroom’s gifts of gold brooches.
After the ceremony, the guests partook in a sumptuous déjeuner, at which the customary toasts were proposed, and the newly married pair left by the evening train for Melbourne, where the honeymoon was to be spent.
Mr and Mrs. J. R. A. Field gave a ball in the evening in honour of their daughter’s marriage, which was attended by a large number of young people.
The wedding gifts were very numerous and costly, including many articles in sterling silver.
