A new recycling competition is offering Shepparton residents the chance to win $10,000 by returning their empty drink containers through Victoria’s Container Deposit Scheme.

The ‘Win A Million! Cents’ competition, running from May 5 to June 15, will see five lucky recyclers across Victoria win cash prizes.

Entry is open to Victorian residents only.

One winner will receive an additional $10,000 to donate to a registered CDS Vic charity, school or community group.

To celebrate the competition’s launch, Visy and FOOTT will be hosting a free open day at CDS Vic Depot Shepparton on Saturday, May 10 from 8am to noon.

Attendees can learn about the competition and have the chance to win multiple giveaways on the day.

There will be free coffee and hot chocolate on offer.

Residents are invited to bring their empty drink containers to return, with team members on hand to help them to enter the competition.

How does it work?

You’ll automatically receive one entry for every 50 eligible containers that you return in a single transaction (whether you keep or donate the refund).

For example:

Number of containers received = the amount of entries gained.

0 to 49 = 0
50 to 99 = 1
100 to 149 = 2
150 to 199 = 3
And so on!

The online entry form automatically calculates the number of entries for you.

You can enter as many times as you like during the competition period.

Every time you enter, you’ll need to return at least 50 eligible containers, complete the online entry form and upload your proof of return.

Since its launch in November 2023, the scheme has seen remarkable participation in the Shepparton region, with 49 million containers returned, resulting in $4.9 million in refunds to residents.

“The Win A Million! Cents competition is a great way to reward Victorians who are doing the right thing by recycling, while encouraging even more people to get involved,” Visy’s Tim O’Donnell said.

Statewide, 1.7 billion containers have been recycled, providing $170 million in returns.

Ten refund collection points operate across the region in Shepparton, Tongala, Tatura, Kyabram and Benalla.

How to enter

Return at least 50 eligible containers in a single transaction.
Keep your proof of return for that transaction.
Head to winamillioncents.com.au, complete the online entry form and upload a photo or screenshot of your proof of return.
