Mitchell Shire’s rich tapestry of natural wonders will be on show with a series of springtime nature walks and family-friendly activities across three of its picturesque bushland reserves.

BEAM Mitchell Environment Group will kick off the festivities with a nature walk and children’s activities at Monument Hill in Kilmore on Sunday, September 29.

The following Sunday, October 6, Wallan Environment Group and BEAM will lead an exploration of Hidden Valley Rail Reserve near Wallan.

The series will wrap up on Sunday, October 13, with nature walks and kids’ games at Seymour Bushland Park, orchestrated by the park’s management committee and BEAM.

Attendees can look forward to morning tea at all events, with lunch also on offer at the Seymour Bushland Park on October 13.

Local volunteers, armed with a wealth of knowledge about the natural world, will spearhead the activities, backed by Mitchell Shire Council’s environment staff.

These three reserves are among 36 public reserves across Mitchell Shire that have been earmarked as ‘Natural Treasures’.

Peter Mitchell from BEAM noted that each of these Natural Treasures boasted different environments, from lush wet forests to sun-drenched dry woodlands, each with its own unique array of flora.

“Mid-spring is the best time to see them all,” he said.

Brochures detailing these Natural Treasures are up for grabs at council facilities, libraries and visitor centres throughout the region.

These handy guides come complete with maps and links to comprehensive guides for each reserve, which can be accessed at beam.org.au/naturaltreasures
